This flexible art class is part of a series. This series offers five one-month classes that can be taken individually or as a complete five-month experience. Each class stands on its own, with no prerequisites or requirement to have taken previous classes.

Students may join for a single month or continue through all five for a more in-depth creative journey. This series is designed to meet you where you are and let you choose the level of commitment that works best for you.

Overview:

This beginner-friendly class is dedicated to exploring the art of rendering texture in drawing. Students will learn how to move beyond simple outlines to create realistic, tactile surfaces that bring their subjects to life on the page.

Key Topics:

1. Mark-Making Mastery: Introduction to essential texturing techniques, including hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling, and controlled blending. Students will learn how to choose the right stroke to describe a surface.

2. Nature Studies: Focusing on organic elements, students will practice capturing the rugged detail of tree bark, the intricate patterns of leaves, and the complex structures of various types of trees.

3. Soft vs. Smooth: Learning the contrast between surfaces. Students will experiment with techniques to depict the softness of hair and fur versus the clean, reflective qualities of smooth, polished surfaces.

Basic Drawing

This flexible art class is part of a series. This series offers four one-month classes that can be taken individually or as a complete four-month experience. Each class stands on its own, with no prerequisites or requirement to have taken previous classes.

Students may join for a single month or continue through all four for a more in-depth creative journey. This series is designed to meet you where you are and let you choose the level of commitment that works best for you.

Overview:

This foundational class is designed for beginners to explore the essential elements of drawing. Students will learn how to utilize various tools and techniques, developing their skills in creating realistic and expressive art.

Key Topics:

1. Tools: Introduction to different drawing tools, including pencils, erasers, and sketching paper. Students will experiment with various materials to find their preferences.

2. Shape Breakdown: Understanding how to decompose complex forms into simpler shapes. Emphasis on using geometric shapes as a basis for more complicated drawings.

3. Value: Exploring the concept of value in drawing and how it adds depth and dimension. Students will practice shading techniques to create contrast and texture.

4. Perspective: An introduction to the principles of perspective, including how to draw objects in a three-dimensional space, enhancing realism in artworks.

Drawing simplified

This flexible art class is part of a series. This series offers four one-month classes that can be taken individually or as a complete four-month experience. Each class stands on its own, with no prerequisites or requirement to have taken previous classes.

Key Topics:

1. 2D Shapes: Learning about basic two-dimensional shapes and how they interact to create more complex images. Students will practice drawing and combining shapes in their compositions.

2. 3D Shapes: Developing an understanding of three-dimensional forms and how to represent them on a flat surface. Techniques for shading and perspective will be integrated.

3. Drawing Animals: Focusing on the proportions  and Shapes of animals. Students will learn how to capture the essence of different species through drawing.

4. Still Life: Composing and drawing still life arrangements. Emphasis on observing light, shadow, and form to create realistic representations of inanimate objects.
