Kid's Polymer Clay: Fall Figurines

This September series will provide an introduction to working with polymer clay from start to finish with a focus on sculpture of figurines. During class, students will have the opportunity to create fall themed figurines including a mushroom, snail, and moth/butterfly; additional figures may be created as time and interest allows. Creations in the first two classes will be baked by the instructor for return at the subsequent class; items made in the last class will be sent home with instructions for baking. 

Come play with clay! In this kids’ art class, young artists will experience working with clay and explore sculpting techniques. Polymer clay is a versatile and fun medium that allows for imaginative expression. Clay art and sculpture also develops fine motor skills, spacial awareness, and planning conceptions. Throughout the class, students will explore techniques to build for stability and prevent cracking in their clay creations, ensuring the longevity and quality of their artwork. Polymer clay comes in a wide variety of colors; class will demonstrate concepts of color design and blending. This class is best suited for children ages 5 and over but adults are welcome to join as observers (free) or students (fee required).

Supplies are not included although some extra tools, aluminum foil, and other items will be available for experimentation and demonstration. Supplies required for the class include: polymer clay colors in white, black, brown, red, yellow, green, and blue and basic shaping tools. 10% off any supplies purchased at Blaines! The Jack Richeson Plastic Clay Tool Set of 3 or Jack Richeson Boxwood Clay Tools or Wooden Clay Tool Set are great options for shaping tools; all required clay colors are available. The DAS Smart Polymer Clay sets in Primary or Warm and Cool set are great options for additional color play and exploration. Additional optional supplies include armature wire and aluminum foil.
